So Friday couldn't come quick enough but when it finally did, we made the most of it. A few people from work decided to take us out for some dinner last night at 9:30pm to welcome us to ECC (our school) so Dawna and I weren't really expecting too long a night ahead of us. Well, we were wrong. In South Korea, you usually start by having dinner. On this particular night, we went to a traditional Korean BBQ-styled restaurant (they're everywhere) and you basically sit a table with chairs (if there are tables with chairs) or on the ground, cross legged over a pillow at a short table. Anyway, you have a grill in the middle of the table and a bunch of Korean side dishes (kimchi, bean paste, leaves, etc) and you eat like a king... or as Dawna would probably make me say it... "a person of royal descent." You usually always have dinner with beer or soju (it sort of tastes like a watered down vodka that's sweeter), socialize and have a good time. Well, we had a lot of meat... and a lot of beer... and a lot of soju... and before we knew it, it was 11pm and we were ready to go out. Little did we know, this would be the first of four stops. In Korea, you usually start by having dinner/drinks, head to a real bar to have some more drinks and then you head out to a nori bang. Nori bangs (karaoke rooms in English) are really popular with Koreans and it's a pretty awesome time. So after dinner, our director, Jack (or as he referred to himself after a few/many drinks, "The F***in Jack!") took us out to this awesome bar overlooking the city where we had some more drinks followed by some awesome Nori Bang. We spent about 2 hours singing together, then headed out to another bar until about 4am... then finally called it a night.
Anyway, here are the pictures/videos to show it all:
I DON'T HAVE TO TEACH TOMORROW! AND I DON'T HAVE TONSILS!
Chris, one of the other teachers at our school (from England), singing his brains out as Jack, our director, gets us more drinks.
Dawna with two other teachers from our school, Abby (on the left, she's from England) and Amy (on the right and she's from Toronto).
The ladies of ECC singing...
Dawna and Jack getting their sing on.
Wishing I was an actual rock star... but I guess teaching English in South Korea will do for now.
Chris and I doing some Oasis.
Dawna and Amy.
ECC love.
Chris and his wife.
Dawna experiencing fun.
NORRRRRRI BAAAAAANGGGGG
After Nori Bang, we hit up Jazz, a local pub where all the foreign teachers in Masan like to meet up and drink. After Jazz, on the walk home, I snapped this picture of a fish tank just outside a store. These fish tanks are all over the city and you can buy these fish to eat.
Or you can purchase some fine eel as well.
Bryson, I was thinking of you while this was playing. Little did Dawna know she WAS ACTUALLY TAPING!
Jack and Dawna singing it up. Pretty awesome that we can party with our boss and sing like a bunch of idiots together.
Yes. They have Avril Lavigne in South Korea too. I know. It sucks.
